TL;DR
Endspire was founded by disparate powers desperate for survival, freedom, or fortune. The Chain of Oaths—both symbolic and magical—forged a unified city out of rival ambitions.
Before the City
The region was known as the Stormlands—a magically volatile zone riddled with relic fields, weather distortion, and arcane residue.
Past settlements failed due to:
- Magical instability
- Raiding forces and tribal resistance
- Internal collapse
But the ruins they left behind offered clues and tools—early magitech cores, shielding relics, and arcane convergence nodes.
The Founding Coalition
The founders included:
- Scholars and rogue arcanists seeking to study relic fallout
- Exiled merchant houses escaping distant empires
- Warlords and scavenger kings tired of endless wandering
These factions agreed to forge a “final city” — a sanctuary built atop chaos, shielded by tech and oath.
The Chain of Oaths
To prevent collapse from within, the founders bound themselves to a multi-layered agreement:
- Spiritual Pact — overseen by early Chainbound clerics; each vow carried magical resonance
- Legal Document — written in multiple languages and formats to ensure redundancy
- Civic Doctrine — created the first framework of rights, duties, and sponsorship
Each new citizen had to be sponsored into the Chain—a tradition that continues to this day.
Immediate Challenges
- Infrastructure — shielding, water filtration, and magitech control systems had to be improvised
- Governance — the initial Council of Chains formed to handle disputes between guilds and districts
- Defense — border patrols and arcane wards held off raiders and unstable weather
Despite these challenges, Endspire endured—and grew.
