A vast sinkhole below the city, The Maw Beneath is an ancient chasm of collapsed infrastructure, sealed horrors, and whispering dark. It is avoided, feared, and occasionally worshipped.
Beneath the foundation of Endspire lies The Maw Beneath, a massive abyss that predates the city's earliest constructions. Whether natural or the result of ancient war, the Maw is a place of instability—both geological and metaphysical. Entire districts collapsed into its depths long ago, creating a crater of unlivable shadows, strange echoes, and pulsing ruins.
Legends claim that the Maw touches other places—beneath, beyond, or sideways. Adventurers speak of doors that lead to rooms with no exits, tunnels that reset behind you, and a constant, low-throated breathing sound beneath the rock.
The Maw Beneath is a permanent cautionary zone. Only the Chthonic Order actively explores it, claiming it holds truths about Endspire’s forgotten past. Their findings are kept secret, and few challenge their jurisdiction over the Maw.
